At Virginia Commonwealth Chess Kids, we empower students through the two most powerful tools for building the mind: Chess and Mathematics. Our programs help children strengthen focus, discipline, reasoning, and problem-solving — skills that lead to academic success and long-term confidence.

Led by a licensed Loudoun County Public Schools educator with nearly 20 years of experience, we offer structured, high-quality instruction in a warm, supportive environment where every student is challenged and celebrated.

CHESS PROGRAMS (Levels 1–3 for All Ages)

A complete developmental pathway for students of all experience levels.

Level 1 — Beginners

Perfect for students new to chess.
We teach the rules, piece movement, check/checkmate, simple tactics, basic openings, and confidence in playing full games.

 

Level 2 — Intermediate

For students ready to improve strategy.
We teach tactical patterns, planning, decision-making, endgames, and structured game review.

 

Level 3 — Tournament Preparation

For motivated and competitive players.
Students study openings, advanced tactics, positional strategy, game analysis, and competition readiness.

MATH PROGRAMS (Grades 3–8)

​

Math Enrichment (Grades 3–5)

Teacher-led lessons paired with Mathspace, an adaptive platform that adjusts to each student’s level.
Students strengthen number sense, fractions, decimals, word problems, and early algebraic thinking.

 

Pre-Algebra (Grades 5–8)

A rigorous, advanced course that goes beyond the school curriculum.
Students learn expressions, equations, integers, proportions, graphing, exponents, and multi-step problem solving — preparing them for Algebra 1 success.

Math sessions build:

• Level 2 (Intermediate): Friday, 5:00–6:30 PM

• Level 3 (Tournament Prep): Wednesday, 5:30-7:00 PM

• Math Enrichment (Grades 3–5): Monday or Thursday, 5:00–6:00 PM

• Pre-Algebra (Grades 5–8): Tuesday, 5:30–7:00 PM

Tuition & Program Options

Our programs offer high-level instruction at competitive, transparent rates.

• Chess Level 1: $120/month (1 hour/week)

• Chess Level 2 & 3: $140/month (1.5 hours/week)

• Math Enrichment (Grades 3–5): $140/month (1 hour/week)

• Pre-Algebra (Grades 5–8): $200/month (1.5 hours/week)

Combo options are available for students enrolled in both Chess and Math.
