At Virginia Commonwealth Chess Kids, we believe that every child has the potential to become a confident thinker, problem solver, and lifelong learner. Our programs are built on the foundation of strategic thinking, mathematical reasoning, and academic discipline — skills that shape success far beyond the classroom.

We are an enrichment center where students grow intellectually, emotionally, and academically through the study of Chess and Mathematics.

Our Story

Founded in Stone Ridge Aldie, Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth Chess Kids was created with one mission:

To help young students develop the skills, habits, and confidence they need to excel in school and in life.

​

What began as a small chess coaching service has grown into a trusted enrichment center offering:

• Structured Chess Training (Levels 1–3)

• Math Enrichment (Grades 3–5)

• Pre-Algebra (Grades 5–8)

Our programs are led by a licensed LCPS teacher with nearly 20 years of professional teaching experience, bringing academic rigor, clarity, and child-centered instruction into every class.

Our Core Programs

Chess: Levels 1–3

​

Level 1 – Beginners

Fundamentals, rules, confidence building, guided play.

 

Level 2 – Intermediate

Tactics, strategy, planning, endgames, deeper thinking.

​

Level 3 – Tournament Preparation

Advanced openings, positional play, analysis, competitive readiness.

​

Our structured curriculum helps students grow from casual players into strategic thinkers.

Math Programs: Grades 3–8

​

Grades 3–5 — Math Enrichment

Teacher-led instruction + adaptive Mathspace practice.
Builds number sense, fractions, decimals, word problems, and early algebraic skills.

​

Grades 5–8 — Pre-Algebra

A rigorous course preparing students for Algebra 1 and advanced math tracks.
Covers expressions, equations, integers, proportions, graphing, and more.

Math instruction focuses on:

• Conceptual understanding

• Step-by-step reasoning

• Multi-step problem-solving

• Academic confidence
